I’ve been hard at work de-cluttering my beauty vanity and storage space at home. As I sift through products in my stash, I realized quite a few I splurged on that I wish I hadn’t and I thought that would be beneficial to share.
The purpose of this post is not intended to bash any of these brands or products. I’m here to share my honest opinion about products I tried that simply did not work well for me. If you have strong opinions about beauty products like I do, then you might consider some of these to be unpopular opinions and that’s totally fine!
Here are five beauty product regrets and why…
OUAI Finishing Creme: It’s described as a lightweight lotion for your hair to protect from heat styling and smooth dry ends for a “lived-in look.” I’m not a fan of the scent (unlike the other OUAI hair styling products I love) and this product didn’t live up to its expectations. It’s been collecting dust in my bathroom.
Drunk Elephant T.L.C. Sukari Babyfacial: I had really high hopes when I first purchased this product. It’s a cult favorite and the reviews on Sephora honestly influenced my decision to purchase. But after a handful of uses, I didn’t really notice any miraculous change to my complexion (specifically, my skin didn’t feel that smooth). It costs $80 for 1.69 oz, which is pretty steep in my opinion. I wish I had tried a sample size before purchasing.
Summer Fridays Jet Lag Mask: I think this is the most over hyped skincare product. I purchased this back when it launched because I love masking and it sounded like a great product. The first time I tried it though my face turned red and I experienced a bad reaction to the formula. I was so bummed (mainly because I spent so much money on it) that I thought I would try it one more time. The second time I had zero reaction with my skin and I thought maybe I just shouldn’t apply any other potions before the mask. Since then I’ve used the product occasionally but the bottom line is this—I don’t think it’s that great of a product and I would not repurchase.
YSL Eye Gloss Smudger: This is one of those products that left me wondering why I ever purchased this to begin with. I proactively try to prevent oily lids on any given day so a gloss made for the eyes sounds absolutely ridiculous. I tried this only once (purchased from Sephora) and it was an extremely runny texture. It’s hard to gauge how much to apply if you want a “lived in” look. The better alternative is simply to use a smudge brush.
Urban Decay Naked Skin Shapeshifter: I’m a sucker for highlighter and contour palettes and I thought this would be my holy grail product. This palette contains both powders and creams to contour, color-correct, and highlight. I purchased the light/medium for my pale skin. While I love the packaging, the products vary. The lighter bronzer worked well for me but the color correctors were complete fails. The palette itself is also really heavy so it’s not something I would want to pack with me on trips.

These types of posts are always so helpful- thanks for sharing! I’ve tried buying color correcting palettes in the past, but they always end up sitting unused until they expire…

Thanks for reading! Yes, I agree. I never end up using color correcting palettes.
