An update on my current summer makeup routine
I know it’s not *technically* the summer season yet but the weather definitely feels like summer.
I know businesses are starting to reopen but it’s still full-on quarantine for my husband and I. We continue to work from home (very grateful about that) and occasionally order takeout/delivery for some meals. Just a friendly PSA Coronavirus is still very real and still a risk.
A trip to the grocery store is an easy excuse for me to put on makeup now. I’ve been thinking about the products I’ve been using and what’s been working well for my skin right now so I thought I’d share my current summer makeup routine.
I shared a pretty extensive skincare routine in a recent post here. I would be remiss to not mention that as we dive right into makeup.
It’s been a long time since I’ve used a drugstore foundation but I have to admit I really love Covergirl Skin Milk Foundation. It gives me more coverage than Glossier Skin Tint and Bareminerals Complexion Rescue, but it still looks like skin and isn’t smothering. It’s been marketed as a vegan formula so I feel okay using this on my face. I will say, the first couple times I used it, it pilled on me and I didn’t love it. Primer is everything. I’ve been using my Supergoop Unseen Sunscreen as my primer (love the formula and the texture as it fills my pores). Paired with the sunscreen, it holds up really well. Skin Milk has a dewy finish but it doesn’t look or feel greasy, which I appreciate. For reference, I wear the second lightest shade, Fair 520.
For concealer, I use Glossier Stretch Concealer. I like that it doesn’t cake or crease and that it never feels heavy on my under eye area. I find that applying with my finger works best. From there, I’ll dust a small amount of setting powder under my eyes.
Fenty Cream Bronzer is a newer addition to my summer makeup routine. I was on the hunt for a cream bronzer for a while. This one is a huge compact and I really like the formula. A little goes a long way. I use the shade ‘Butta Biscuit’ (for fair to light skin tones) and I’ll blend it out with a sponge or bronzer brush. My only complaint is dipping my finger or brush in the compact. I really wish it was a stick rather than a compact!
For blush, no surprise here, I really love my Glossier Cloud Paint. Lately I’ve been mixing Puff (a cool pink) and Beam (a peach) together for that bright summer glow. A few dabs of Haloscope on my cheek bones and nose, and then I’ll all done with my face makeup.
I’m excited to share a slightly new eye makeup routine with you guys. I’ve been using Skywash in the shade pebble as a base on my lid and crease area. If you read my review on Glossier Skywash, you’ll see that Pebble is a very light lilac/gray shade. Using it as an eyeshadow base has worked well. It kind of reminds me of the MAC Painterly Pot in Bare Study. After it dries down, I’ll take Lidstar in Cub and apply that on my lids for a nice pink pop of color and then I’ll apply Moon (sheer opalescent glow) for an inner corner highlight.
For mascara, I’ve been switching between two tubes: Lash Slick and ILIA Limitless Lash Mascara. Lash Slick has been a long-time favorite—I always get nice, long, separated lashes. ILIA is a nice clean makeup alternative. It also lengthens, lifts and separates my lashes.
I’ve pretty much stopped wearing any lip gloss or lipstick since quarantine. I’m either applying Balm Dotcom (in coconut or mango) or, I’ll apply Bubblewrap (an eye cream that also doubles as lip plumping cream) to keep my lips hydrated. The last time I ventured out to the store, I wasn’t thinking and blindly applied a coat of lip gloss only to realize later I would be wearing my mask so it ended up being a very sticky situation.
So that’s my summer makeup routine in a nutshell. What makeup products are you loving right now for summer?
