This blog post is a paid collaboration with MAELOVE (pronounced May-love) skincare. It’s important to me that I partner with brands that work best for me and my lifestyle. It was up to me to determine how I incorporated these products into my routine and the content topic of this post.
As always, opinions and experiences are my own.
How Maelove Skincare helps with a glowing complexion and for treating my facial scar.
I have a facial scar that I am always self-conscious about. You may recall I was in a bad car crash back in June 2019 and I ended up getting several stitches for lacerations under my nose and lip. As we all know, wounds heal with the help of stitches and they eventually become scars and (hopefully) fade with time.
The scar under my nose is the most prominent. Most of my friends and family don’t initially notice unless I point it out, but of course I notice it all the time. Seeing it is a painful reminder of what I went through so if there’s a way to help reduce the appearance of my scar, I’m going to try it.
I’m excited to share with you three MAELOVE skincare products I’ve been using to help treat the appearance of my scar and improve my overall complexion.
For reference, I have a combination skin type, which leans oilier in the warmer months. I’ve been using these Maelove products for a little over two weeks and I’ve already seen a noticeable difference in my complexion.
THE DEEP EXFOLIATOR:
The beads in this physical exfoliator really put in the work to sloughing away dead, congested skin. In the summer, I tend to exfoliate more often (2-3 times per week) because of how oily my skin gets during the season. The scar under my nose feels like a deep crease so it easily gets congested and rough in terms of texture.
I’ve been using this scrub a couple times a week for a couple weeks now and my skin always feels smooth and supple after using. The roughness on my chin, forehead and around my nose is always gone after using it. My entire face felt so smooth and soft to touch. What I appreciate the most is how clean and smooth the area around my scar feels after using.
My biggest concern with using most exfoliating treatments is how sensitive and reactive my skin is. My skin was definitely a little red like usual and because of my own sensitivities, it’s not something I can use more than twice a week but that brings me to the next product I use after cleansing.
THE GLOW MAKER:
This might be the best vitamin C serum to ever happen to my skin. I’m not kidding. The hype is real! I’ve tried numerous glowy serums and treatments and nothing comes close to how my skin looks thanks to this antioxidant serum. I reach for it in the morning and at night.
It’s like an all-in-one vitamin C serum packed with all the best ingredients to help hydrate and brighten skin. In my experience, most vitamin C serums are pricey (this one is reasonably priced for $28). My skin is so sensitive that I have to typically apply vitamin C serums in small doses, otherwise it will irritate my skin. I don’t have to worry about that with The Glow Maker — I haven’t experienced any adverse reaction.
The first thing I notice about the serum is how lightweight and nourishing it feels. It sinks into skin quickly and doesn’t feel overly greasy or sticky, which I so appreciate because so many serums I’ve tried in the past usually do. I look forward to applying this every day because I love how it makes my skin feel. After using the Deep Exfoliator, this serum eliminates any redness almost immediately. I can’t get enough and I’ve already used more than a third of the bottle already.
I apply The Glow Maker in the morning before moisturizer, eye cream and sunscreen. When I use it in the evening, I like to layer it with other treatments like The Stargaze Serum (a great retinoid treatment for beginners) before moisturizer or an overnight mask.
THE SUN PROTECTOR:
I learned early on from my car crash that scars are more prone to hyperpigmentation and can burn more easily, so protecting my scar from the sun is crucial. Dermatologists will always say that the best sunscreens for scars are mineral-based thanks to the broad-spectrum coverage and superior protection.
The Sun Protector is a Broad Spectrum SPF 30 fortified with vitamins C and E. It can be worn alone or layered underneath makeup and is suitable for sensitive skin types like me. I like that the sunscreen sinks in quickly, leaves my skin feeling moisturized yet tacky enough in texture to work as a makeup primer. I’m all for products that multi-task these days!
The scar under my nose will always be there but I have noticed that these three skincare products have helped with reducing the appearance of it, protecting from sun damage and making it easier to smooth the way for makeup. Nowadays when I apply makeup and concealer, it doesn’t cake up or cling to the indent of my scar like it once did. It’s been a little over two weeks since I started using these products daily and I’ve already noticed my skin looks more radiant and even toned than before.
Maelove also graciously gifted me a few other products that I didn’t mention in more detail: The Eye Enhancer and the Love 31 Precious Face Oil (this will definitely come in handy during the colder months). I’ve been using these products as well to help with maintaining a consistent skincare routine and focusing on a brighter, more even complexion. If you struggle with acne scars, dark spots or an uneven skin tone, you might find these products to be effective and helpful. You can shop Maelove skincare products below!
