5 January Beauty Favorites

January Beauty Favorites via Politics of Pretty

January is supposed to be a productive month but for me it was filled with multiple health challenges, which is why I haven’t posted in the last couple of weeks.

It started on January 4thwhen I got a pedicure at a nail salon. The nail tech cut my cuticle to the point it was bleeding. I tried a bunch of home remedies to heal from it but ultimately it became infected. So I went to Patient First, got a prescription for an antibiotic and took it for 10 days.

I finished the antibiotic a little over a week ago and then two days later, I caught a horrible stomach bug and didn’t leave my house for five days. I’m much better now but wow, it was a rough month health-wise.

All I can hope for is a healthier February. I only purchased one beauty product in January and I did get the opportunity to sample a couple new products. Here are my January beauty favorites:

Nudestix Nude Metallics For Eyes: This was my only makeup purchase in January. I scooped up this mini set for $25, which includes three luminous eye pencils and a sharpener, conveniently packaged in a cute tin with a mirror.  Compared to other cream eyeshadow sticks, these are simple and easy to blend. There are several reviews that state these are not safe for contact wearers but I wear contacts daily and these eye sticks have yet to cause any issues for me.

I thought the set was a pretty good deal, even if the eye crayons are smaller versions of the full-size sticks. That said, I still think the full-size ones are overpriced. I highly recommend this set since $25 will get you three as opposed to just one.

Glossier Balm Dotcom: The best pick-me-up for the winter woes. Rose has been a long-time favorite but you can never go wrong with Original or Birthday. I’ve been keeping a few in my purse when I run errands or go to work.

Fresh Sugar Strawberry Exfoliating Face Wash: Fresh has been one of my favorite skincare brands (I love their Soy Face Cleanser) and I received a sample in my Sephora order and wanted to share my thoughts. The formula is a jam-like texture (minus the stickiness) and helps slough away dead skin without leaving my skin looking red and irritated. I’m not sure I would use this daily but I’m thinking about purchasing during the next bonus event.

Drunk Elephant F-Balm Electrolyte Waterfacial: This is a new product from Drunk Elephant and I scooped up a trial size when I placed my order for Nudestix. The directions state to apply this as the last step in your skincare routine and use as an overnight mask. The first night I applied a small amount for a 24-hour patch test (no issues) so I applied the following night and when I woke my skin felt super hydrated—no dry patches! I’ll definitely be purchasing the full-size version; however, I’m going to wait until the next bonus event so I can save a few bucks!

NARS Lip Gloss in Turkish Delight: Another oldie but goodie; I’ve been obsessed with layering lip gloss over BDC or lipstick. It is a sticky lip gloss (I mean, I have yet to find a non-stick lip gloss) but I do love how this pink sherbet shade looks against my fair complexion.

I’d love to know what are your January beauty favorites? Let me know in the comments.
