The things I do for this blog.
About two weeks ago I spent $48 on the Summer Fridays Jet Lag Mask, created by bloggers Marianna Hewitt and Lauren Gores.
When I first saw snippets of the product on my IG feed, I thought, well I’m not a jetsetter so why would I ever use this mask? Then I saw the tagline, “you don’t have to be a jetsetter to have that lag.” Touché, marketing. Touché.
I tend to obsess over having soft and smooth baby-like skin, which is what pushed me to take the plunge and add this $48 mask to my Sephora cart.
Summer Friday’s Jet Lag Mask is comprised of ceramides, vitamins, antioxidants, and anti-inflammatory ingredients to help combat over-worked and inflamed skin. Chestnut Extract is their star ingredient. It activates the natural exfoliation process, polishing away dullness so skin looks healthy. It’s also cruelty-free, vegan and made in the USA.
After I washed my face with my trusty Milky Jelly Cleanser, I applied a few drops of Super Pure and Super Bounce. Usually I like to lightly test and incorporate a new product into my routine but I was so eager to try this, I was all in. I applied a thin layer of the mask to my entire face with the intent of leaving it on overnight.
Let’s talk scent. At first, it smells like a Girls Scout Thin Mint cookie… and then a few seconds later, it starts to smell like toothpaste. Maybe it’s just me. Luckily the scent starts to fade quickly once it absorbs into the skin.
The following morning my skin felt super soft and it definitely smoothed the way for my makeup that morning. After the first night, I felt comfortable applying this about a few times throughout the week as an overnight mask.
Then last night happened. I did my usual post-cleansing skincare routine and applied another thin layer of this mask all over my face. I was relaxing, watching TV, when my face started to feel really hot. I figured it was my drink (hey, vodka & mango peach juice makes my cheeks flush) but then I started to lightly touch my face and started to feel little bumps across my jawline and cheek.
Keep in mind I’ve applied this mask a handful of times… so I’m not sure if it’s the mask or the combination of my serums and the mask… or something else. I immediately took a cleansing cloth and wiped my face.
Needless to say, I’m going to hold off using this mask until I get my skin in check.
The bottom line… is it worth $48? I tend to be a frivolous spender when it comes to beauty so I don’t typically have regrets on splurge purchases… unless it wrecks my skin!!
The Summer Fridays Jet Lag Mask is available at Sephora here.
This post is not sponsored. I purchased this product with my own money and this is my honest review.
Soooo what do we understand from this post? If you don’t have a verdict why are you telling us where to buy it?
I’m disclosing where the product can be purchased if someone is interested in buying it (whether my post peaks their interest in trying it is up to them). I wrote a mixed review because my initial few times trying the mask were positive up until a day ago when I broke out. I’m not sure if it’s because of other products or used in combination with so I’m not ruling it out just yet. Thanks for reading!
Well right off the bat it looks small for that price & I am not too crazy about the minty/toothpaste smell.
My go-to overnight amazing mask is Chanel’s Hydra Beauty Masque De Nuit Au Camélia \ Hydrating Oxygenating Overnight Mask.
It’s $65 and I use it twice a week- worth every penny and the smell is just fabulous!
Sounds like this Chanel mask is a winner! Thanks so much for the recommendation, and for reading! xx
I bought the mask a week ago and LOVE it! I’ve used it overnight a couple of times and even added a little underneath my tinted moisturizer on my dry spots. Hopefully you can get it figured out (if not, I’ll take your mask :))!
That’s great to hear! I’ve been meaning to post an update. I took a break from using the mask after I broke out for about a week and then revisited it. This time around, I just applied it for 10 minutes before wiping with a tissue and didn’t have any issues. Maybe I just can’t use it as an overnight mask?
You mostly liely developed a sensitivity to the fragrance, since in your description it seemed heavily fragranced. Or it could have been any other ingredient as well. Some people report sensitivity to ceramides so it could have been that as well.
But thank you, I will not be making this purchase. Waste of $$$ when I can get products with the same ingredients at the drug store at a fraction of the cost.
Yeah, I think it was a sensitivity to the fragrance, in combination with other serums I used prior to the mask. I did end up giving it another go (only cleansed and then applied the mask for 10 minutes) but honestly, it still didn’t give me spectacular results. I rediscovered an old favorite– the GLAMGLDW ThirstyMud Mask. Thanks so much for reading, and your feedback!
I was a day spa owner for over 20 years. That sounds like your skin was reacting to something specific that day but it is hard to determine without knowing exactly what your regimen was. I would recommend trying it again in a small test area to see if you have another reaction. I would also recommend applying your serums after cleansing and the mask. And your moisturizer should be last of course.
