Is the Summer Fridays Jet Lag Mask Worth $48?

I spent $48 on the Summer Fridays Jet Lag Mask and here's what happened

The things I do for this blog.

About two weeks ago I spent $48 on the Summer Fridays Jet Lag Mask, created by bloggers Marianna Hewitt and Lauren Gores.

When I first saw snippets of the product on my IG feed, I thought, well I’m not a jetsetter so why would I ever use this mask? Then I saw the tagline, “you don’t have to be a jetsetter to have that lag.” Touché, marketing. Touché.

I tend to obsess over having soft and smooth baby-like skin, which is what pushed me to take the plunge and add this $48 mask to my Sephora cart.

Summer Friday’s Jet Lag Mask is comprised of ceramides, vitamins, antioxidants, and anti-inflammatory ingredients to help combat over-worked and inflamed skin. Chestnut Extract is their star ingredient. It activates the natural exfoliation process, polishing away dullness so skin looks healthy. It’s also cruelty-free, vegan and made in the USA.

After I washed my face with my trusty Milky Jelly Cleanser, I applied a few drops of Super Pure and Super Bounce. Usually I like to lightly test and incorporate a new product into my routine but I was so eager to try this, I was all in. I applied a thin layer of the mask to my entire face with the intent of leaving it on overnight.

Let’s talk scent. At first, it smells like a Girls Scout Thin Mint cookie… and then a few seconds later, it starts to smell like toothpaste. Maybe it’s just me. Luckily the scent starts to fade quickly once it absorbs into the skin.

The following morning my skin felt super soft and it definitely smoothed the way for my makeup that morning. After the first night, I felt comfortable applying this about a few times throughout the week as an overnight mask.

Then last night happened. I did my usual post-cleansing skincare routine and applied another thin layer of this mask all over my face. I was relaxing, watching TV, when my face started to feel really hot. I figured it was my drink (hey, vodka & mango peach juice makes my cheeks flush) but then I started to lightly touch my face and started to feel little bumps across my jawline and cheek.

Keep in mind I’ve applied this mask a handful of times… so I’m not sure if it’s the mask or the combination of my serums and the mask… or something else. I immediately took a cleansing cloth and wiped my face.

Needless to say, I’m going to hold off using this mask until I get my skin in check.

The bottom line… is it worth $48? I tend to be a frivolous spender when it comes to beauty so I don’t typically have regrets on splurge purchases… unless it wrecks my skin!!
