My Summer Makeup Routine

While I personally love cataloging Washingtonians and their beauty routines, I’ve always envied the fact that their routine is… well, a routine. My makeup changes on a weekly basis (in fact, sometimes daily) but that’s the life of a beauty blogger. I’m sure Lara, Laurie and Lindsay would agree. I may hoard beauty products like it’s my full-time job but the products I sample and fall in love with are always incorporated in to my daily beauty routine. Check out my summer makeup routine for eyes, lips and face after the jump!

Kara Manos Politics of Pretty

Eyes:
The past few days have been late nights and early mornings for me before I’m able to take off for vacation. That’s why I heavily rely on Clinique All About Eyes Serum to wake me up. It’s like a cup of coffee for your eyes (and it melts away any puffiness).  Any Washingtonian gal knows in order to brace the city’s hot and humid temperatures, it takes a slew of products to protect our faces from melting. I can’t live without Laura Mercier Eye Basics in Linen because it covers up these tiny veins on my lids and holds eye shadow all day long. Lately I’ve been brightening up my eye makeup with Clinique Chubby Stick Shadow Tints (Whopping Willow and Lavish Lilac are my favorites), which are cream-based pigments, thus helping my eye makeup last all day. I like to curl my lashes with my new Chanel Precision Eyelash Curler. Best $34 I ever spent. I’ve been living off a sample size YSL Babydoll Mascara and I don’t know what I’m going to do when I run out of it. It separates and lengthens my lashes so well. Shit, well I guess I’ll just have to buy a full-size tube. In the summer, I stick to a more laid back beauty look but I’ll always pack Stila Stay All Day Liquid Eyeliner in my handbag in case I have plans after work.

Lips:
I’m always stashing lip glosses, lipsticks and tinted lip balms in my purse but lately I’ve been switching between L’Oreal Paris Colour Riche Le Gloss (my favorite non-sticky lip gloss) and Revlon Colorburst Lip Butters. When I’m in the mood for a fun lipstick color, bareMinerals Marvelous Moxie Lipstick in Never Say Never is my go-to.

Face:
I use a dime-size amount of Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream and apply to the dry areas of my face (usually the T-zone). This instantly makes my face feel so soft and smooth. I usually let that absorb for a minute or two before I apply Benefit Stay Flawless 15-Hour Primer stick to my cheeks, forehead, nose, and chin. I can’t decide what I’m more obsessed with—its staying power or packaging. OK, now brace yourself—I rarely wear foundation. In fact, I don’t really like foundation. Usually I stick to tinted moisturizers or BB creams but ever since bareMinerals gifted me with their original mineral foundation formula and brush, I’ve been wearing it almost every day. There are only remnants of my Perricone MD No Concealer Concealer left but I don’t care, I now just open the pump bottle and scoop out what I can with a Q-tip. Yes, I’m that addicted. It conceals dark circles well when I use the pointed side my Beautyblender. Cream blushes tend to have more staying power than powders but I always find myself coming back to Stila’s All You Need is Love Cheek Palette. The rosy pink quad always gives me a pretty glow. To seal my finished look, I roll a powder brush over my NARS Light Reflecting Pressed Setting Powder.

What’s on your vanity this summer? Any beauty product recommendations? I’d love to hear!
