Goldilocks & The Maybelline Color Elixirs

After testing many glosses, lipsticks, pencils and stains, I know what I like and don’t like. Dos: lip stains, matte lipsticks, metallics, and velvet smooth pencils. Don’ts: sheer lip gloss, ultra dry formulas, sparkly lip gloss (although that one is open for discussion). And may I add, nothing is worse than finding out the color you purchase is nothing like the hue you see in the container. Needless to say, I’m pretty picky when it comes to my pout (hence the reason behind the title of this post).

Enter Maybelline Color Elixir—the newest lip product to hit my doorstep. Thanks to Refinery29, I was able to sample three shades from the new hybrid lip lacquers (on the website it promises the color of a lipstick the fusion of a balm and the shine of a gloss).

I usually wear liner (even under lip gloss) but I decided to try this completely bare. I was pretty impressed with the color. It wasn’t ghostly or chalky—the opposite actually. The formula is pretty thick and opaque compared to glosses I’ve tried before. The fuzzy tapered applicator is much different from other lip tubes and it kinda threw me off but for best results start applying from the center of your upper lip (I didn’t do that the first time). My favorite shade is Fuchsia Flourish, an acid bubblegum pink (although Raspberry Rhapsody comes in close second).
