In Hair Products We Trust: José Eber Clipless Curling Iron

Simply put, I (used to) suck at curling my hair (I have the burns and crappy drugstore curling irons to prove it). No matter the barrel size, I always ended up with tight spirals and an awkward bent looking shape at the ends of my strands. I always thought it was me, but after trying this José Eber Clipless Curling Iron, I realized it was never my poor curling skills, it was that damn clip!

Whether I’m looking for glamorous curls or loose waves, using this clipless curling iron is so easy. And I was pleasantly surprised how great my hair held up on days two and three (stay tuned on my lazy hair routine in a future post). The curling iron comes with three interchangeable barrels (a 19mm, 25mm and tapered) and one trusty black glove (for hazard-prone ladies like myself).

If you’re curler challenged like me, just follow these easy guidelines to flawless looking waves:

First, add some texture. I typically like to wait several hours or a day after washing my hair before curling. But if I don’t have the patience to wait, I’ll apply a small amount of Bumble and bumble Texture Crème ($12) or Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray ($19) to give my hair some grit.

If you’re an amateur stylist, use the glove. I learned the hard way. Trust.

If you have long locks, use a clip to divide and conquer. I typically don’t clip my hair, because it’s so short right now, but I do like to section it off.

In terms of curling technique, wrap hair away from the face. For a more natural and disheveled look, I like curling my hair forwards and backwards everywhere else. If you prefer loose waves, comb through curls with your fingers, or sleep on it.

Use a finishing spray—one that holds the curl but won’t harden your hair. I’m particular to Sebastian Shaper Fierce Ultra-Firm Finishing Spray ($19).
