What’s the different between Glossier and Glossier Play?
Glossier is still very much a skincare and barely there makeup brand. Glossier Play is a brand of “dialed-up beauty extras.” Think colorful eyeliner, lip products, glitter eyeshadow, and highlighter concentrate.
Glossier Play Review & First Impressions
In true Glossier fashion, I purchased the Glossier Play Starter Set ($60), which includes one of everything from the collection. In today’s post, I’m sharing an honest Glossier Play review and first impressions on the products and packaging. I also shared swatches in my latest IGTV episode, which you can watch here.
Vinylic Lip, a high shine lacquer
Starting off on a positive note, this is my favorite product from the new brand. I love cushiony, glossy lipstick and the color payoff is so good. I got the shade Blow-Up, a candy pink; but now I want to get my hands on Pony (dark taupe) and Baby (siren red). I like that it does not include a doe-foot applicator; instead, it’s a click-pen with a sponge-like applicator. UPDATE: I purchased Pony and Baby. Pony is a beautiful dark taupe. I was a little worried it wouldn’t compliment my skin tone but I loved how it looked. Baby is a gorgeous bright red but for daytime I can blot it for a daytime look.
Colorslide, technogel eye pencil
This is my second favorite product in the lineup. It comes in 14 shades and for my set I chose “Stable Relationship,” which is a moss green. I have hazel eyes and I like to line my waterline with green liner to really make my eye color pop. This formula definitely has long-lasting staying power too. UPDATE: Earlier this month I scooped up two more liners: Pretty Penny and Candyland. Loving both of these shades for my hazel eyes as well!
Blade, a sharpener for Colorslide
I haven’t purchased traditional pencil eyeliner in a long time so I’m glad I purchase the set for this reason. This is a pencil sharpener with a transparent base to catch all the pencil shavings so there’s no mess. It also comes with a cleaning stick to clean residue from the blade itself.
Glitter Gelee, multigrade paillettes
I had very little expectations with the glitter gel but this has been the biggest surprise. I chose the shade “Firewalk,” which is a coppery, iridescent rose. It has a soft mousse-like consistency that feels comfortable on my skin and heck, even wearable. I don’t go out often though so I’ll need to get creative on when and where I wear this.
The Detailer, silicone precision multitool
This is the sidekick tool to Glitter Gelee. This is an angled silicone tip and wand is supposed to scoop up just the right amount of glitter you want/need to apply to your lid or inner corner. I haven’t had a chance to use this but I’m sure this will come in handy!
Niteshine, highlighter concentrate
I was a little surprised Glossier released another highlighter, considering they already sell Haloscope as part of their original lineup. This one is marketed as a highlighter with depth. I chose the lightest shade, “Pale Pearl,” which is an opalescent shimmer with a champagne gleam. At first glance I thought this was nail polish because of the packaging. It has a small doe-foot applicator, which I like; however, I don’t think this highlighter is all that different from Haloscope. Or maybe I just like Haloscope better than this.
Would I Repurchase?
Based on my Glossier Play review, I would definitely repurchase Colorslide in a few other colors—Magic Carpet, Disaster Class, and Jumbo all look appealing to me. I’d be open to trying another glitter glee shade; however, I just don’t know how often I’ll use what I already got so I may put that on hold for now.
