I love my current mascara wardrobe but if I could save a few bucks and discover some new drugstore mascara dupes, I could reallocate those expenses to something else (oh like you know, a new bag or something). Of the four I purchased, one thing is for sure: no wand is the same. Here’s a quick beauty breakdown on these four drugstore mascaras.
Don’t be fooled by the not so cute packaging—CoverGirl LashBlast Plumpify Mascara was my favorite out of these four. A couple coats using the swirly wand easily lifts and adds volume to my limp lashes. The trick is to twist the brush as you comb through your lashes.
When I purchased L’Oreal Voluminous Butterfly Sculpt Mascara I didn’t think I would be heading to clump city. There was so much excess mascara I needed to wipe before I could apply. It didn’t separate my lashes or coat evenly. Out of the four, this one was my least favorite.
So many of my non-blogger friends raved about Maybelline Volum’ Express The Colossal Big Shot Mascara and I was pretty pleased with the volume it gave my lashes but it fell short on length. If you’ve ever tried TooFaced Better Than Sex Mascara, this is your drugstore dupe. I don’t recommend waiting for lashes to dry between coats, otherwise you’ll end up with spider lashes.
When I was on my drugstore mascara haul at Ulta, they had a BOGO deal on Maybelline so I decided to grab a tube of The Falsies Push Up Angel Mascara. The super skinny wand worked wonders in terms of length and definition. It felt like I was sweeping a tiny comb through my lashes—but alas, it lacked in volume. If only Maybelline could do a mashup of this one and Big Shot mascara.
