Happy first day of summer! This DMV region has a terrible reputation for hot and humid weather. But when I think back to the bitter cold winter days and grueling mornings of defrosting my car, I never thought this day would come. So I’ll take it!
The summer season has reminded me it’s time to scale back on my makeup routine. Whether it’s a trip to the beach or the need to rely on melt-proof makeup, I’ve rounded up the best beauty products for summer.
Eyes:
ColourPop is my new obsession and I’m mad at myself for not discovering some of their products sooner. I’ve been using their Super Shock Shadows daily (both for work and play). Wattles is a pretty peach with a satin finish, and it has been my go-to everyday look. I also love Weenie, an ultra-metallic rose gold (pictured). My best advice when shopping for these super cute $5 shadows is that you Google swatches of the shadows. While I’ve been pretty content with all the shadows I’ve purchased (a whopping 7 in case you’re wondering), the product images on the website can be a little misleading.
I’m really loving colored eyeliner again (see this post reclaiming my obsession). I’ve noticed when I wear Revlon Colorstay Eyeliner in Jade (a pretty hunter green) on my lower lash line it really makes my eyes pop. I love the double-ended smudge sponge to smoke out my liner and give it a more lived-in look.
While I have a couple high-end mascaras in my makeup arsenal, I always find myself coming back to drugstore staples. L’Oreal Voluminous Lash Paradise is new, but I just had to give it a try and I’m really impressed with the results. No flaking or smudging here, and it’s waterproof!
Lips:
You guys, this is the hardest part about this post. I could list about 50 lip products totally worthy of living in your makeup bag. But this post is about how to pair down your makeup routine so I need to practice what I preach!
For summer, you need a really great everyday lip balm, which is why I recommend Glossier Coconut Balm Dotcom. The coconut scent has summer written all over it and I carry this with me everywhere. I’m a Glossier rep, so check out my page to scoop up Balm Dotcom and more of my favorites.
I’m really into lip stains right now and this Sephora Collection Cream Lip Stain smells great and is very hydrating compared to other liquid lipsticks.
Face:
I know I’ve raved about this priming moisturizer on the blog before, but I have been using it daily since I first got my hands on a sample. I love the dewy sheen and if I’m not in the mood to wear makeup, I can confidently wear this alone.
While I’ve worn foundation more this year than I have before, I still don’t like smothering my face in makeup—especially in the summer. This tinted hydrating gel cream from bareMinerals is a nice alternative when I need sheer coverage.
I’m now rotating about five highlighters but I still swear by the Clinique Chubby Stick Sculpting Highlight (and there are only a few left in stock on Sephora!). If I don’t have time or don’t care to wear blush/bronzer, I feel pretty good with just a swipe of highlighter on my cheek bone and cupid’s bow.
NARS Orgasm Blush is giving me life again. This peachy pink with golden shimmer is just perfect for my summer wardrobe. And for bronzer, Benefit Hoola Lite Matte Bronzer is the perfect shade for me—prior to discovering this, I had a hard time finding a bronzer that suited my skin tone.
