Q&A with Stylist-in-Chief Stacy London

The Westfield Style Tour kicked off this past weekend with style guru and host Stacy
London. While the down-to-earth stylist-in-chief may not talk politics, when it comes to fashion and beauty, it comes fluently to her. Here, London chats with me about the First Lady, a fab lip gloss and the latest beauty must-haves.

DCShopGirl: Let’s start with the obvious: what are your thoughts on DC style?

Stacy London: It’s getting better. I credit the Obama administration with more than just what they’re doing in politics. I think Michelle Obama is a great role model for women in Washington. She really owns her style in a way that’s about her, not just about being First Lady. It’s about flaunting what you love, camoflauging what you don’t and accepting all of it. I think there was a real shift when they came in to office. You know, republicans can be a little stuffy when it comes to fashion but I’m not even gonna go there politically [laughs]. For the first time we saw a First Lady who was wearing American designers from different ethnic descents. I will never forget when she wore Jason Wu to the Inauguration. And I think that’s starting to carry over in Washington and women are being much more adventurous. It’s not just about khakis and loafers and boring black shoes. I’m thrilled DC ladies are catching on!

DCShopGirl: What’s a great beauty look that would complement this season’s spring trends?

SL: For me, it’s always about a little bit of shimmer on the cheek and a really pretty lip color. It’s the easiest, most natural look to get. I just think for the average woman, it’s about adding some color and a focal point. It could be lip gloss or mascara. Pick a feature and stick with that.

DCShopGirl: What are beauty products are you loving right now?

SL: I love anything from NARS. My latest must-have is Smashbox’s O-Gloss which adjusts to your natural lip color. It’s a little expensive but it’s worth the splurge. I’m also loving the new lip crayons from Tarte. I’m obsessed with this perfume by Juliette Has a Gun in Miss Charming and I like to think that’s what I become when I spritz myself with it.
