Sharing my thoughts on this year’s Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, plus the best beauty exclusives.
The last couple of years I’ve had mixed feelings about the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. A sale is supposed to be exciting and save you money. I have nostalgia about the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale – when I was younger, my mom would make a day of going to our local Nordy’s, enjoying lunch at the cafe and of course, shopping for fall clothes and accessories.
Last year Nordstrom changed their early access program among cardmembers, which means depending on your spend level determines how early you can shop as a cardholder. Basically if you’re rich AF you can shop on July 12th and if you’re basic like me you can shop on July 16th. Five days doesn’t seem that long but last year by the time it was my turn to shop, almost everything on my wish list was sold out. It was slim pickings to say the least but my wallet was happy.
Despite last year’s dismal options and my frustrations with the way they have structured early access, I’ve decided to focus on shopping with a purpose. As an everyday minimalist, I’m aiming to buy fewer, better things. Things I will use season after season and making sure I wear and use everything I buy.
I will say I am impressed with the sale items and new brands they’ve added this year. I will be shopping, pending everything is still available by the time I have access. My wish list this year is a mix of beauty, cardigans, jewelry, and denim. The shoe and handbag selection is disappointing this year but I’m happy about that – no temptations.
Below is a breakdown of cardmember early access and sale dates.
If you’re like me and you want to shop the sale but grow tired of the endless consumerism that comes with it, here are a few tips:
- Comb through the catalog and add the must-have pieces you want to your wish list.
- When you shop the sale (whether you have early access or are waiting until it’s open to the public), checkout quickly. Try and avoid multiple orders unless you’re worried about an item selling out fast.
- Once you’ve ordered everything you want, unsubscribe from the Nordstrom Sale marketing emails, mute any IG accounts covering it, avoid stepping in an Nordstrom at all costs.
If you’re in the market to shop this year’s sale, I’ve compiled my top 10 favorite items for the everyday minimalist:
A simple gold pendant necklace
I love the simplicity of this gold pendant and the price is reasonable. This will go well just any everyday outfit or can be layered with other pieces.
Everyday eye makeup brush set
Ready to upgrade your makeup brushes? This set includes five essential makeup brushes for every eye makeup look: an all-over blending brush, eyeshadow base brush, a detail smudging brush, a round shader brush and an angled brow brush.
One of my favorite things to purchase during the sale is new denim, particularly because I never like to spend money on full-price designer denim. I find Paige denim to fit true to size and very flattering. Fun fact – I purchased a pair of Paige skinny jeans way back in 2017 and they’ve held up very well! I still reach for them season after season.
A gentle cleanser duo
The Fresh Soy Face Cleanser is one of my favorite luxury cleansers. I like the cucumber scent and how my skin always feels soft, nourished and clean after using. I usually stray from buying beauty products in bulk but this duo gives you full and travel-size options.
A chain bracelet
Madewell jewelry is so underrated in my opinion! I’ve scooped up so many cute, affordable quality pieces this year from the brand and I was excited to see a few items included in the sale. This flat-edged link bracelet will layer well and is only $16.90.
Minimalist makeup essentials
I always like to comb through the beauty preview for full-size sets to get the most bang for your buck. This Bareminerals makeup set features a loose bronzing powder, a rosy lip gloss-balm and a mineral mascara.
I love these pigmented creamy eye colors for one-and-done eyeshadow looks from Laura Mercier. Three full-size eyshadow sticks would normally cost $87 but this beauty exclusive is only $58.
I know it seems weird… shopping for fall clothes in the middle of July but if you love fall fashion then now is a good time to stock up on layered knits and cozy sweaters. I like the high/low hem of this Madewell pullover, which is available in some great neutral colors.
Albeit a little pricey than most sweaters, this cutout turtleneck sweater caught my eye. If you love a slouchy fit, this looks equal parts luxurious and edgy. The stone blue and truffle color ways are beautiful. I may add this to my own cart because it’s a 50% discount!
A clean body wash and lotion set
The Necessaire full-size gel-oil body wash and unscented lotion set sold out last year pretty quickly so I’m sure it will happen again. It would typically cost $50 for this duo but this limited-edition set is only $35. The twist-cap and squeeze tube of the body wash makes it super convenient while using it in the shower. I do like the formula, it’s not sticky or greasy and is both vegan and cruelty-free.
