Life Lately: My 30th Birthday, Fitness Journey & TBSCon

Politics of Pretty 30th birthday

My 30th Birthday

I’ve been putting off this post for as long as I can. I knew once I hit publish it would just make it more real. I am officially 30. Although I still feel like I’m in my 20s. Maybe that will change over time but I’ve entered a new decade in my life and I want to make the most of it.

I was originally going to do a dedicated birthday recap post but I realized it really wasn’t that eventful. Yes, it was so much fun and I had a great time… but other than going to dinner and then gambling in the casino, not much else really happened. I guess that’s a sign of turning 30… when all your friends have a great time, get along and the only drama is getting a dress on time.

I made the not-so-wise decision to order from Rent the Runway for my 30th birthday celebration. Unlike previous occasions, I wanted to be prepared and know what I was going to wear. I placed my order two weeks before my birthday for a little red off-the-shoulder dress and a pink fit and flare. Naturally, the day it was supposed to arrive I receive a notification saying it was returned. I was like, WTH—and reached out to their customer service team. As it turned out, UPS mistakingly sent me order back to the fulfillment center. RTR did their best trying to ship me out what I originally ordered and overnight it. It did make it by noon on my birthday—literally an hour before we were supposed to leave for the National Harbor.  Unfortunately, the red dress was the only one that actually fit me.

When I arrived at the hotel, GlamSquad came to do my hair and makeup. The PR team generously gifted me with services since I partnered with them back in November for an event. I absolutely LOVED my hair and makeup. A few days prior, I also got an organic spray tan. Needless to say, I felt absolutely beautiful on my 30th and I have zero regrets.

My New-ish Health & Fitness Journey

Back in April, I was in the fitting room of a Neiman Marcus, trying on a Black Halo dress that I fell in love with when I saw it on the rack. But guess what? It didn’t fit.

The dress was the catalyst to motivate me to start working out. So throughout the months of April and May, I started working out at the gym at my apartment complex. Flash forward a couple months later and now I’m logging my meals in a calorie tracker app, doing my best to cut back on carbs, sugar and dairy, and still working out three to four times a week.

Working out has been the best thing going for me right now. I’ve been consistently going to the gym and keeping track of my meals has made me more thoughtful about my nutrition. On the flip side, I haven’t been blogging as often as I would like but that’s OK because I’m really enjoying my self-care Sundays.

About a week ago I signed up for an Orangetheory Fitness class. My friend Victoria recommended I check it out and I was pretty eager to see a studio had opened in Columbia.

I ended up loving the class. I didn’t feel like I needed to compete with anyone but at the same time felt motivated to really push myself into that “all out” block. By the end of the 60-minute class I was signing up for a monthly membership. A membership to a boutique fitness studio is pricey though. I signed up for the basic membership—4 classes for $79/month (pricing varies on location) but I know I’ll take advantage of all four classes.

The Blog Societies Conference

I’m heading to Atlanta later this week for The Blog Societies Conference, aka #TBSCon. This is my second year attending (last year the conference was held in Chicago and I had an amazing time) and I’m looking forward to learning more tools that I could apply to this little blog business of mine and feel inspired by all the amazing speakers.

A couple weeks ago I scooped up a pre-loved Canon 70D camera for a really good price and I’m hoping to learn more tips and tricks with filming so I could do more video content. I think I’ve reached a bit of lag with blogging. Don’t get me wrong, I love to write and I love trying new beauty products but I’m not testing enough beauty products to write daily. Right now I’m more interested in video because I love to talk and I feel like I have more to say about topics other than beauty.

So there you have it. That’s been my life lately. Do you like these types of life updates? I always feel so awkward doing these and I also struggle with opening up because I think my adult life is a little lame but I’d love to know what my readers are up to! Let me know in the comments.
