How to maintain color treated hair + Giveaway

One of the most popular questions I get from readers is how to maintain healthy color treated hair. When you’re at the beach or taking dips in the pool all summer, it’s easy for color treated hair to start fading. As much as I love my ombre/Balayage look, I forget I’ve got to protect it too!

Anytime you dye your hair, it tends to do a bit of damage. If you’ve got color treated locks or are thinking about coloring your hair, make sure you have hair products that will preserve your color for as long as possible. Today I’m sharing tips and products recommendations that will help preserve color treated hair.

First and foremost, you need a hair mask. I keep Ion Color Defense Color Preserving Masque in my shower caddy for a weekly deep treatment to help hydrate and brighten my Balayage. With this mask, a little goes a long way. After cleansing, leave this on for 5-10 minutes and you’ll have uber soft strands.

Every time I step out of the shower, I reach for a wide-tooth comb to detangle. I don’t like relying on a paddle brush to detangle—I usually end up losing more hair that way. Ion Color Defense Detangling Shine Mist works wonders on my tangled tresses. My color-treated hair stays strong, smooth and protected from heat styling. It’s also a great shine spray—because what girl doesn’t want shiny hair?

Usually if I shampoo twice in one instance, my hair will last for at least three days (sometimes four). But for those days when you want to extend your style, I reach for Biotera Color Care Invisible Dry Shampoo. It works well to eliminate oily looking hair while also reviving color. I’ve tested a bevy of dry shampoos and what I really like about this one is the clean, slightly floral scent without it being too perfume-y. I usually spritz this to help boost volume and pull my hair into a messy, relaxed ponytail (like above). You can also spray this on your roots after you blow dry to help extend your blowout.
