Mask Magic: Cosmedix Activated Charcoal Mask

Cosmedix Activated Charcoal Mask Review - Politics of Pretty

If you follow me on Instagram, then you probably heard about my IG takeover on Cosmedix’s IG stories. I shared my current cleansing and mask routine. In case you missed it (and since you can’t look it up now), I wanted to share with you my new favorite detox mask. Here’s a quick breakdown of the latest mask magic!

What it does: Imagine all that dirt and grime your face absorbs just by going outside. This activated charcoal and kaolin clay-based mask helps draw out those impurities from the pores while leaving a visibly brighter complexion. Also, so we’re all on the same page here… “activated” means it has at one point been heated to up its absorption benefits.

How to apply: Apply a generous amount to clean, damp skin. You can rub in circular motions using your fingertips, or what I like to do is evenly apply the product with a foundation brush. Leave on for 10-15 minutes and then gently rinse with warm water and pat dry.

Personally, I like to multi-mask when I’m not relying on a sheet mask. I use this activated charcoal mask on my t-zone (forehead and nose area) and then apply a moisturizing formula on my cheeks and chin (I love this one by Glossier).

What it felt like: It feels like a typical pore cleansing mask. It dries out pretty quickly but it doesn’t feel uncomfortable or sticky.

What I did while I masked: Caught up on the latest IG stories, duh!

The results: Clogged pores no more! Just one application of this activated charcoal mask and it left my skin feeling super smooth and clean. Doing my makeup later that day made it so much easier. I’m definitely keeping this in my mask arsenal!
