“I really like the looks of Kate Middleton and Lauren Bush Lauren: Dark brows, occasion-appropriate makeup and healthy hair. I also like to get into trends more than they do. I tried ombre hair, top knots, statement jewelry and neons this summer.
I tend to go makeup-free all day with iS Clinical anti-aging moisturizer. I use clean sponges for my Make Up For Ever foundation, then apply eyeshadow, lip and cheek colors from various brands I’ve collected over the years. Some of the recurring favorites are my Hourglass Calligraphy eyeliner pen, Make Up For Ever lipsticks and glosses (they last all night!), Butter London nail polish, and my palette of eyeshadows from Ulta. I also drink LOTS of water, all day, everyday.
Kerastase’s Oleo Relax line and Sebastian Ultra Hold hairspray tame my flyaways when I want to get glossy before a big event. I recently picked up some Kerastase products at David Rios in Georgetown.
Erwin Gomez (who just opened Karma Beauty Lounge in the West End!) did my makeup for a full month when I did Blonde Charity Mafia in 2008. He taught me so many things, but my top three:
1. Use foundation that is one shade lighter than your face, or you will look muddy.
2. Rub your tips with a wet washcloth to get rid of dry winter lips.
3. Let mascara dry before you try to rub away a mistake. This way, it doesn’t smear.
I occasionally indulge in blowouts. There is a salon in my apartment building that I use, and I am really excited about DryBar opening up in Georgetown. Blowouts seem like a really silly expense because it’s only nice for a few hours, but sometimes it’s worth it when you know a lot of photos will be taken. The Chocolate Organic Spray Tan at Nectar Skin Bar is also great for a faux tan. I love the team at Nival Salon and Spa in Chevy Chase. They do hair, nails, and treatments.”
