I never really understood the purpose of serums until, well, I tried one. I used to think that “lit-within” glow came from a great moisturizer, turns out I was wrong. That glow really does start within… within the serum you’re using. Here’s why: daily moisturizers are great, but those nutrients don’t penetrate as deep as a serum. Serums actively work to add moisture, anti-aging properties and other benefits to the skin. It’s like the base coat to a great manicure.
From anti-aging products to stellar brightening serums, I’ve rounded up five serums for every skin type. You’ll notice none of these serums are budget friendly and that’s because they shouldn’t be. I’m sure there are drugstore serums out there (ones that I haven’t tried… #beautybloggerfail), but ultimately, you need a product that yields great results.
If you’re an anti-aging fanatic, you’ll love Juice Beauty Antioxidant Serum ($45) that boasts anti-aging, lifting and brightening properties. This is safe enough to apply under the eyes and areas of concern, not to mention smells really good.
If you have sensitive skin, squeeze 5-7 drops of the peptide-packed M-61 Hydraboost ($78) and over time you’ll develop brighter, firmer skin. I swear, this serum feels lighter than water. Bluemercury CEO Marla Malcolm Beck spent years researching and concocting this serum for those with especially sensitive skin and I love that it helps with dullness without over-drying skin.
If you have dark spots and hyperpigmentation issues, Caudalie Vinoperfect Complexion Correcting Radiance Serum ($78) is a must for sun-worshippers. It’s a light-weight formula meant specifically for brightening and clearing up dark spots.
If you have acne prone skin, I’ve heard good things about Bliss Peeling Groovy Facial Serum ($65) (props for their witty take on beauty products!). This serum helps exfoliates skin while preventing pesky pimples. Bye bye breakouts!
If you want a radiant complexion, splurge on La Mer The Radiant Serum ($275) and I promise, it’s worth every penny. Dull skin can really take away from your entire beauty look. Although I have only tried a sample, I want more (cue the AT&T commercial).
Have a favorite serum? I’d love to hear in the comment box below!
This is a great post! I was scarred of serums for a while because I felt like they were too oily for my skin, but I snagged a Boscia one recently and fell in love. They really do make you glow!
